A CLEAR PROCESS FOR PARENTS

How youth coaching works

A parent or guardian leads the service relationship and stays involved in communication and progress reviews.

  1. Choose a focus.Pick sports foundations, strength and conditioning, speed and agility, season preparation, mentorship or routine support.
  2. Share the context.Provide the age group, sport or activity, goals and schedule so the plan starts with the athlete’s real situation.
  3. Review the plan together. The service includes an age-appropriate sports and movement plan, plus strength, speed or sport preparation suited to the selected focus.
  4. Check progress weekly.Parents can see weekly progress reviews and discuss adjustments as sport, school and family schedules change.

SUPPORT BY DEVELOPMENT STAGE

Choose the age group

These are starting points for a parent–coach conversation. They are not one-size-fits-all prescriptions; experience, interests, sport and schedule matter too.

Ages 5–7 · Positive movement foundations

Start with the child’s interests, comfort and experience. A parent can discuss general movement, coordination, confidence and building a positive routine around play and sport.

Ages 8–11 · Broad athletic foundations

Talk through the young athlete’s activities, practice schedule and goals. Coaching can focus on varied movement, age-appropriate strength and conditioning, speed or sport preparation.

Ages 12–14 · Skills, strength and schedule fit

Plan around the athlete’s experience, sport calendar, school commitments and chosen focus. The parent remains part of communication and weekly progress reviews.

Ages 15–17 · Sport and season preparation

Choose a focus such as strength and conditioning, speed and agility, tryout preparation or maintaining routines during a busy season. The plan is discussed with the parent or guardian.

CHOOSE WHAT THE ATHLETE NEEDS

Youth sports training focuses

Start with one clear priority. The intake asks for the athlete’s sport or activity and goals, so the conversation can be specific to their situation.

Sports foundations

Build a starting plan around the young athlete’s experience, interests and the sport or activity they name.

Youth strength & conditioning

Discuss age-appropriate strength and conditioning that fits around existing practices and the athlete’s current stage.

Speed, agility & athleticism

Choose a speed, agility or general athletic movement focus and fit it to the athlete’s sport, experience and schedule.

Season & tryout preparation

Work backward from the season or tryout date to plan training priorities alongside practice, school and recovery time.

Confidence & sports mentorship

Use regular check-ins to support confidence, positive routines and the young person’s goals in sport.

School, sport & life balance

Plan realistic routines around school, training, family commitments and the amount of time the athlete has.

PARENT OR GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT

A parent stays part of the process

Coaching supports the athlete alongside their team, school and family. It does not replace a team coach, medical care or sport-specific instruction from a qualified coach.
