COMBAT & STRENGTH / EDUCATION

The demands of the sport
for Rock climbing.

Build legs and trunk alongside time on the wall.

What the activity actually asks for

Climbing uses route reading, grip, pulling and foot placement at varied intensities.

Where the gym fits

Leg drive, pulling and trunk stability complement climbing without excessive grip fatigue. Physical preparation raises general capacity. Skill and tactics remain specific to the sport.

What to practice separately

Climbing movement and fall technique require instruction and wall practice.

Three movements to understand

These are examples of general physical preparation. Tap any movement for target muscles, setup, execution, common errors and an easier alternative.

Put this into your week

Two full-body strength days, climbing sessions and easy movement between. Easy aerobic work can support general fitness without more finger load.

Begin with a manageable session and record how it affects the next practice. If you can complete every set with sound form and recover well, add a repetition or modest resistance. If quality or recovery falls, reduce a set or move the session away from the hardest sport day.

Climbing movement and fall technique require instruction and wall practice. Finger and elbow tissues may need slower loading than general muscles.

Evidence and interpretation

General training evidence informs this guide. The sport-specific exercise choices are coaching applications; training response varies by person and season.

General education. Work within your ability and seek qualified advice for injury, symptoms, contact technique or return to play.
